A Doleful Thank-You

Thanks be to God for sadness, pain and sorrow,
Thanks be to all who made my life a horror,
Thanks be to friends who lied and let me down,
Thanks be to all who tried to make me drown.

Thanks for the obstacles that had been sent my way,
Thanks for the spitefulness that was to lead astray,
Thanks for the drunks who tried to mess with me,
Thanks for the brokenness that made me want to flee.

Thanks be to everyone who's ever crossed my path,
Thanks be to anyone who's made me blaze with wrath.
I struggled much to "stay alive" and hardships overcome,
But looking back I understand — I've better thus become!
